🏃♂️✨ What a heartwarming moment! BBC Morning Live’s Gethin Jones took on a new role over the weekend as he helped his visually impaired colleague, Dr Oscar Duke, participate in a Couch to 5k event in Manchester! 🏅

Gethin didn’t just offer moral support – he underwent special training to become an England Athletics Sight Loss Awareness Guide, enabling him to run alongside Dr Oscar as his guide runner. The duo took on the Morning Live Couch to 5k with style and smiles! 😄
On Monday’s BBC Breakfast, Gethin chatted about his first experience as a guide runner. “My first race as a guide runner for @droscarduke (who’s rapid btw!!!),” Gethin shared. He highlighted the importance of communication, navigating tricky surfaces, and balancing concentration with having a laugh along the way. 🤝

Dr Oscar, who’s partially sighted, expressed his gratitude with a playful nod to the supportive spectators and his reliance on Gethin, quipping about Gethin’s guidance being like “Manchester Sat-nav!” 😂

From water bottles whizzing past to varied running speeds, Gethin described the day as a fantastic one. The event wasn’t just about the race; it was a celebration of community spirit, with participants at all stages of their running journeys coming together for fun and fitness. 🏃♀️🎉
The event was buzzing with excitement, showing that no matter your background or ability, the power of teamwork and determination can lead to brilliant achievements. Hats off to Gethin and Dr Oscar for showing us what supportive camaraderie truly means! 👏💪
