🏉 Tribute to a Rugby Legend: Geoff ‘Tommo’ Thomas 🏉

Llanishen RFC mourns the loss of a true icon, Geoff ‘Tommo’ Thomas, who has sadly passed away at the age of 74. Known for his incredible dedication, Geoff played an astonishing 1,000+ games for the club, making him a legendary figure in Welsh rugby.
Heartfelt tributes describe Geoff as a “true rugby man” and “absolute gentleman” who was woven into the club’s very fabric. He was more than just a player; he was a friend, mentor, and beloved character both on and off the field.

Despite overcoming health challenges, including a heart bypass, Geoff continued to excel as Llanishen’s hooker well into his fifties. His 1,000th match was a celebrated event, captured by Scrum V and celebrated with a special game at Cardiff Arms Park.

Geoff wasn’t just famous on the rugby field; he was a cherished skittles player and a “proper family man” who recently realised his dream of becoming a grandfather.
Those who played alongside him, like Bryn Wilde and Gerry Miller, remember his unwavering commitment and infectious spirit. “Geoff had time for everyone and was always willing to lend a hand,” they said, remembering how he formed friendships with players from rival teams, creating bonds over post-match drinks.
Club Secretary Mark Francis highlighted Geoff’s timeless popularity, bridging generations of players and fans. Geoff’s achievements and character remain an enduring pillar for Llanishen RFC.
This weekend, a minute’s silence will be observed in his honour before Llanishen’s next match. Rest in peace, Tommo. Your legacy and spirit will live on, both on the pitch and in our hearts. 🕊💔
