A frightening ordeal unfolded in the car park of the Barley Mow pub in Cowbridge. Darren Williams, reportedly under the influence, lost control and launched a shocking attack on his ex-partner, dragging her from a car, headbutting, and throttling her. The car park witnessed chaos on what should have been a celebratory evening for the woman, who had just exchanged contracts on a house earlier that day.

What sparked the attack? Both had worked together at a local pizzeria and had a brief relationship that ended months before. When Williams offered to drive home, things took a drastic turn. During the journey, his erratic behaviour was alarming, forcing the woman to return to the pub. Once there, tensions exploded into violence, leaving the victim with cuts, bruises, and chilling trauma.

Williams initially denied recollection of the night’s events, but come trial day, he changed his plea to guilty for assaults causing harm. Despite past convictions, his lawyer argued that alcohol misuse was at the root of his behaviour and that he’s now seeking a fresh start with hopes of working as a supermarket delivery driver.

Recorder Barry Clarke sentenced Williams to 27 months in prison, suspended for three years, with conditions including a rehabilitation requirement and alcohol monitoring.

This incident is a grim reminder of how quickly situations can escalate. Stay safe and look out for one another. 💬🛡️ #CourtNews #StaySafe
