Tragic news from Cardiff: the body of 28-year-old Mirahaban Asaad was discovered last year in the River Taff. Originally from Iraq, Mr Asaad had moved to Cardiff back in 2019. He faced challenges with his asylum application, and the stress took a toll on his mental health, contributing to his depression.

An inquest at Pontypridd Coroners’ Court revealed that Mr Asaad’s death was due to immersion in the river. Coroner Patricia Morgan explained that, given his mental health struggles and denied asylum, it’s likely he intended to end his life.

This heartbreaking story highlights the crucial need for mental health support, especially for those undergoing significant life challenges.
