Three “cowardly” burglars have been put behind bars after breaking into a Cardiff home and threatening children with a knife. This terrifying incident took place in the early hours on Jackson Road, Ely, but the quick thinking of one brave child helped authorities catch these “immoral” thieves.

Anthony Edmunds, Ben Emmott, and Craig Smith wore masks as they entered the home, stealing a games console and mobile phones. However, one of the children managed to contact South Wales Police using the ‘Find My iPhone’ feature to track the stolen phone’s location. Thanks to this clever move, officers swiftly arrested the trio on Plymouth Wood Close. Inside their getaway car, police found two knives and the t-shirts they used as masks.
All three have since faced the music in court. Edmunds, 52, from Rumney, was sentenced to eight years plus an additional 14 weeks for breaching a suspended sentence. Emmott, 33, from Caerau, initially denied his involvement but later changed his plea to guilty, receiving nine years and four months. Smith, 44, from Adamsdown, was sentenced to seven years and seven months.

Detective Constable Craig Pearce praised the bravery of the young victims, stating, “It was a terrifying ordeal for them but thanks to their quick thinking, the offenders were arrested within minutes. Incidents like this are rare, and the streets are undoubtedly safer with these criminals behind bars.”
A distressing event brought to justice by the bravery and resourcefulness of young minds. Kudos to them for helping ensure the safety of their community! Stay vigilant and always remember, in critical moments, every action counts.
