Nigel Farage has stirred up a storm, claiming the UK is “defenceless” without backing from the United States. Speaking in Merthyr Tydfil, the Reform UK leader insisted that maintaining a strong alliance with the US is crucial. His comments come after Wales’ First Minister, Eluned Morgan, urged the UK to halt the Deep Space Advanced Radar Capability (DARC) programme over concerns about Donald Trump’s influence.

The DARC programme is set to monitor space objects like satellites and asteroids, with radar sites planned across the UK, US, and Australia. The UKβs contribution involves updating Cawdor Barracks in Pembrokeshire, despite its slated closure in 2028. The site would see 27 large dishes installed, crucial for monitoring Earth’s orbit.

Farage argues the focus should be on the strategic relationship with America, not individual leaders. He said, “Without America, we are, frankly, defenceless.” He criticised Welsh Labour’s stance, suggesting it’s short-sighted to oppose the DARC collaboration due to Trump.
Lady Morgan, however, expressed scepticism about the US under Trump’s leadership, advocating for robust international alliances that don’t give a pass to contentious actions. She said, “There is a clear difference between standing with our partners and giving a free pass to a US president who has shown contempt for our country.β
