🛳️ Hantavirus Alert: British Cruise Passengers to Isolate in Wirral 🦠

British passengers from the cruise ship MV Hondius are set for isolation at Arrowe Park Hospital, Wirral, following a hantavirus outbreak that tragically claimed three lives onboard. The ship, currently heading to the Canary Islands, will bring back affected passengers and crew under stringent health protocols. 🚨

A 69-year-old Dutch woman is among the fatalities, with investigations ongoing for the others. As a precaution, all returning Britons will be housed in the same facilities that were famously used for repatriates from Wuhan during the early days of COVID-19.

Health officials have reassured that the risk to the UK public remains low, thanks to robust infection control measures. The passengers and crew showing no symptoms will be greeted by NHS officials and local authorities to ensure everyone’s safety. 🏥
Janelle Holmes from Wirral University Teaching Hospital confirmed that around 24 passengers will be accommodated, with thorough symptom screening in place. Anyone who shows symptoms upon arrival will be transferred to the appropriate facility without delay.
The process is a collaborative effort with NHS England, Merseyside Police, and other local services working hard to provide comfort and support to the isolating passengers. Efforts are in full swing to manage their stay with the utmost care.
Let’s keep those affected in our thoughts and appreciate our health services and partners for their dedication in managing this challenging situation. 💙
Stay informed and stay safe, everyone!
