🚗 Urgent Rethink Needed on Tyre Safety Laws! 🚗

Hold onto your steering wheels, folks! A new study has unveiled a worrying trend among secondhand car sales in the UK. Shockingly, around 16% of cars being sold have tyres deemed “potentially dangerous” – far from the smooth rides you’d expect!

🔍 Conducted this Tyre Safety Month, the research highlights how some vehicles hit the market with as little as 3.6mm of tread, a level where tyre performance plummets fast. Worst yet, certain cars are being sold with tyres just touching the legal limit of 1.6mm tread, making them an accident waiting to happen.
🚨 To put this in perspective: stopping from 70mph in wet conditions with fresh tyres takes about 94 metres. On 1.6mm tyres? Prepare for a jaw-dropping 171 metres – the difference between a safe halt and a 46mph collision!
🛑 Halfords and Professor Peter Wells from Cardiff University are sounding the alarm for a law change. They suggest bumping the legal tread limit to at least 3.6mm – an idea backed by a whopping 81% of Brits in a recent survey.
🔧 Don’t fret! Halfords garages nationwide are stepping up with free tyre checks. Why take risks when peace of mind is within easy reach?
🚦 Remember, your tyres are vital for safe journeys, not just during MOTs. Before your next road trip, give them a check!
