🎄 Is the DWP’s Christmas Bonus enough? 🎄

As Christmas approaches, many benefit claimants are finding the £10 Christmas Bonus from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) far from festive. Originally introduced in 1972, this small sum hasn’t changed, even though its value has significantly decreased over the years.
Critics are calling this amount “insulting,” especially with the current cost-of-living crisis. Could it be time for a change? A new petition thinks so! It’s demanding the bonus be increased in line with inflation, effectively suggesting a boost of 1,700%—bringing it up to about £180.

David Kirkwood, the petition’s creator, argues that the original value of the £10 could cover much more—it once provided significant help during the holiday season. Now, it doesn’t stretch nearly as far. “£10 today won’t even buy a round of drinks,” David highlights, questioning its ability to support those in financial need.
The petition has garnered nearly 3,000 signatures but needs at least 10,000 to prompt a government response and 100,000 for a debate in Parliament. The last time the bonus changed was during the 2008 financial crisis when it was temporarily increased to £70.
Are you eligible for this bonus? Check if you receive any of these benefits: Adult Disability Payment, Carer’s Allowance, Child Disability Payment, State Pension, and more.

Let’s spark a conversation about whether this Christmas tradition needs a modern makeover! 🎅✨
