Exciting news for Cardiff City fans! The Bluebirds are set to welcome a new addition to their coaching line-up. Imanol Etxeberria, a seasoned goalkeeping coach with a wealth of experience, is expected to join the Cardiff team. Formerly with Manchester City’s academy, Etxeberria brings expertise from both Spanish and English football, having notched up impressive coaching stints with Athletic Bilbao and more.
Manager Brian Barry-Murphy, in his mission to refresh the coaching staff following the team’s stellar promotion last season, seems to have his sights set on Etxeberria to bring in fresh tactics and proven know-how. With his deep understanding of developing young talent and notable tenure at Man City’s academy, Etxeberria looks to be a valuable asset to the team.
This appointment sees yet another connection to Manchester City after the earlier arrivals of Barry-Murphy himself and assistant head coach Lee Riley. The paperwork is still underway, but all signs point to Etxeberria heading to the Welsh capital soon.
Etxeberria’s coaching roots date back to 2006, post his impressive playing career. A former goalkeeper, he boasts 278 senior appearances, including a noteworthy spell in La Liga with Athletic Bilbao. His multifaceted experience, honed across top leagues, positions him well to elevate Cardiff’s goalkeeping prowess.
Stay tuned as Barry-Murphy continues to shape up his stellar backroom team, gearing up for the Championship campaign. With head coaching roles still to fill at the under-18s and under-21s levels, this marks an exciting rebuilding phase for Cardiff City. Can’t wait to see how these changes play out on the pitch! #Bluebirds #CardiffCity #NewBeginnings
