Famous for its charming windmill sign off the A48, this beloved spot has been a part of Cardiff’s landscape for decades. But now, it’s goodbye as the couple prepares to hand the keys to the council.
After 48 years of nurturing this green paradise, Lisa and Gary are moving to North Devon, where a new chapter awaits. They’ve shared countless memories with generations of Cardiff residents and have been the starting point for countless home gardens across the city. The decision wasn’t easy; it’s been a place where the couple not only built a business but a life.
The couple’s heartfelt Instagram post announcing the closure resonated with many, sparking tears and overwhelming support. Customers have expressed their gratitude with flowers and chocolates, each gesture a testament to the centre’s place in the community’s heart.
The garden centre’s seeds were planted by Lisa’s father, Jaap Deen, who came from Holland in the early 1960s. He started it all with a push bike and a few garden tools, leaving a legacy that flourished across three generations.
Despite tough decisions and changing times, Lisa and Gary’s dedication to their customers and their love for the centre never waned. Now, looking towards semi-retirement, they hope for a future filled with family and new adventures.
