Cardiff’s parks were buried in litter during the scorching bank holiday heatwave! With record-breaking temperatures drawing thousands outdoors, bins around the city’s beautiful parks couldn’t handle the influx. Bute, Victoria, and other popular parks saw bins overflowing with everything from takeaway containers to drink bottles by Monday evening.

Families enjoying the sun at Victoria Park’s splashpad found themselves amidst rubbish piles as nearby bins hit capacity. Comments are buzzing with residents’ reactions: “People are finally using the bins, now the council needs to step up with more collections,” says Lisa H. “Why can’t the council install bigger bins or space them more widely?” asks Tom D.

It’s clear there’s tension between council efforts and public responsibility. While some citizens think additional bins and regular clean-ups should be prioritised, others feel we should take our rubbish home and limit waste. One commenter suggests emulating waste management strategies from abroad, or having takeaways help clear their mess.
