Cardiff claimed a thrilling 24-21 victory against the Ospreys in a nail-biting Welsh derby, marking their first triumph over the Ospreys at home since 2007! 🏆 This win puts them in a strong position to grab a spot in the United Rugby Championship play-offs, while it dashed any hopes the Ospreys had for a play-off journey.
Rugby fans were on the edge of their seats as Rory Thornton, Liam Belcher, and Dan Thomas drove in tries for Cardiff, while Callum Sheedy’s boot added another nine points. The Ospreys fought back with tries from Keiran Williams, Jack Walsh, and Dan Edwards, making for an electrifying game. ⚡️
Early hiccups saw Cardiff’s captain, Belcher, temporarily off the field for a high tackle, and discipline remained dicey as Ospreys’ Dan Kasende received a 20-minute red card for a forearm lead into Sheedy’s throat. Yet, Cardiff capitalised on their advantage, with Johan Mulder’s clever play setting Thornton up for a try!
Cardiff was relentless, pushing to a 24-7 lead. But, just as they seemed to relax, a stunning 45-metre dash from Ospreys’ Cam Jones set up Walsh for a try, narrowing Cardiff’s lead.
The game climaxed with a yellow card for Josh McNally, putting the Ospreys back in the running as Edwards dove over the line. Still, Cardiff’s defence held firm against the late Ospreys’ rally to secure the win.
