**Missed Flights and Queues: Europe’s New Border System Stirs Controversy 🚦✈️**

Travellers are facing chaos at European borders thanks to the new Entry Exit System (EES). Designed to speed up border checks for non-EU nationals, it’s doing just the opposite with lengthy waits and missed flights. Brits, especially, seem to be feeling the pinch.

What’s causing the holdup? The EES requires biometric data (like fingerprints) from ‘third-country’ nationals to create a digital travel record. The system was meant to simplify border processes and improve security, but for many, it’s become a nightmare. Some say Brexit has played a role in the delay, making what used to be smooth travel into a muddle of queues and red tape.
Many airports, particularly in popular holiday spots like France, Spain, and Portugal, are struggling to handle the changes. Just last week, nearly 100 passengers missed their flight to Manchester from Milan due to the long wait times. EasyJet has called the situation “unacceptable,” offering free flight transfers for those affected.
As this unfolds, travel experts are urging the EU to reconsider its approach. They suggest pausing EES during peak travel seasons to help alleviate the mess. Julia Lo Bue-Said, from the Advantage Travel Partnership, calls it “a warning sign that cannot be ignored,” stressing that the impact of these delays is serious and wide-ranging.
Adding to travellers’ woes, later this year, the EU plans to introduce another layer to its border protocol: the ETIAS visa-waiver scheme. This development means more forms, fees, and potential headaches for anyone planning a European getaway. Meanwhile, the UK has its own Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) for EU visitors, highlighting how travel norms have changed post-Brexit.
With the summer travel season looming, let’s hope for smoother skies ahead. To avoid the madness, remember: arrive early and pack your patience!
