With the promise of reducing “chronic” congestion, locals are all aboard this idea, hoping it will not only ease travel woes but also bring more visitors to their stunning heritage sites. 🚗💨

Newport City Council has officially requested that Caerleon be part of national plans to revamp transport along the south Wales mainline. This could see a series of new stations along the way, potentially breathing fresh life into the community.

Council leader Cllr Dimitri Batrouni called it a “no-brainer,” emphasising that a new station would equip Caerleon to handle both its current and future residents. Cllr Rhian Howells described the town as a “jewel in the crown,” adding that this move would be “a huge boost.”

On the other hand, there’s some scepticism. Opposition leader Cllr Matthew Evans voiced doubts, suggesting that real change can only happen with more extensive infrastructure projects. Nonetheless, Cllr Jason Hughes inspired everyone to keep fighting for what Caerleon needs.

🚂 Members of TRACS (Towards Restoring A Caerleon Station) have been praised for their relentless efforts to get the council’s backing. They believe a new train stop would be integral to solving traffic issues and enhancing Caerleon’s allure to visitors.
