### Police Arrest Three After Violent Incident Erupts on Cwmbran Street

A disturbing outbreak of violence on a residential street in Cwmbran on Friday afternoon resulted in multiple arrests, with police officers decrying the “unacceptable” nature of the incident and the risk posed to bystanders. Authorities report that glass bottles were hurled and a golf club was wielded as a weapon, prompting a swift police response and ongoing investigations.
The trouble erupted on Caradoc Road, Cwmbran, at approximately 4pm on 30 May, when police received an emergency call about an altercation between two women. According to official reports, what began as an assault swiftly spiralled, with tensions escalating to the point where glass bottles were thrown in the street, endangering both those involved and anyone nearby.

Subsequently, the violence intensified when a male individual is alleged to have assaulted another man using a golf club. Thanks to eyewitness accounts and prompt law enforcement intervention, the situation was soon brought under control, but not before considerable alarm was caused among local residents who witnessed the scene unfold.
In the wake of these events, three individuals have been apprehended in connection with the disorder, Gwent Police have confirmed. A 35-year-old man hailing from Newport has been detained on suspicion of violent disorder and is also accused of two counts of assault. He currently remains in police custody for further questioning.
Another arrest was made of a 25-year-old man, also from Newport, who was taken into custody on suspicion of violent disorder, common assault, and the possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. This individual has been released on conditional bail while investigations continue. The third person, a 27-year-old woman from Newport, was arrested on similar charges, with the addition of dangerous driving. She, too, has been released on bail while officers carry out more enquiries.
Inspector Lee Stachow, speaking on behalf of Gwent Police, condemned the events, underlining the severity of the disruption and the risk to anyone in the area at the time. “Violence of any nature is completely unacceptable,” he stated, highlighting the recklessness of those involved. “What was particularly abhorrent was the complete disregard for innocent passers-by who could’ve potentially been affected.”
The police continue to gather statements and examine evidence to build a full picture of the sequence of events that led to the street brawl. Authorities encourage anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant information to come forward and assist with the investigation.
Scenes such as this serve as a pertinent reminder of the unpredictable dangers that can arise in public spaces. Communities often rely on the quick reaction and professionalism of the police to prevent further harm and maintain order, especially when violence erupts so brazenly in daylight hours.
Local residents have reportedly expressed concern regarding the incident’s impact on feelings of safety in the neighbourhood. Although such outbreaks remain relatively rare, the sense of shock and unease following the disorder underscores the importance of vigilance and strong community policing.
As the investigation continues, Gwent Police have reiterated their commitment to tackling violent behaviour and ensuring that those responsible face appropriate consequences. The force assures the public that all necessary measures are being taken to prevent a recurrence and to safeguard community wellbeing.
The incident is currently being followed up with further enquiries, and updates are expected as more details emerge. Anyone who may have been in the area at the relevant time or has information that could assist in the investigation is encouraged to contact Gwent Police directly.
