⏰ Urgent Action Needed: Make Cancer Care Fair! 🚨

Hey, everyone! Let’s talk about something super important – fair access to cancer care in the UK. According to Macmillan Cancer Support, a staggering four in ten cancer patients struggle to get the care they need, simply because of where they live. Imagine having to travel miles just to get vital tests or treatment – it’s a reality for too many.

Patients report that long journey times are making them think twice about attending crucial appointments. This issue is potentially putting 100,000 lives at risk! Dr Anthony Cunliffe from Macmillan highlights the unfairness: it’s like a “flip of a coin” – where you live shouldn’t determine the quality of your cancer care.
Survey insights are shocking: 40% had to travel an hour or more for appointments, with some even declining tests to avoid lengthy trips. This needs to change. Everyone deserves access to the best possible care, regardless of their postcode.
The latest stats show some progress, but we’re not there yet. NHS England’s target is to improve cancer treatment waiting times by March 2026. If all areas matched the best performers, 60,000 more people would’ve started treatment on time last year.
Take Daisy, diagnosed at 17 with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Her story highlights the struggle – a four to six-hour trip several times a week for care. Thankfully, she had family support, but not everyone is that lucky.
Let’s rally together for change. We need to ensure everyone, no matter where they live, gets fair access to all cancer treatments and tests. It’s time for urgent action to make cancer care something we can all rely on.
