**Liverpool Victory Parade Marred by Tragedy as Car Hits Crowds, Leaving 27 Injured – Four Children Hospitalised**

Celebratory scenes in Liverpool city centre turned to shock and chaos on Monday evening after a car crashed into crowds of jubilant Liverpool FC supporters, leaving dozens injured in what police have called a “horrific” incident. The crash occurred at around 6pm on Water Street, a central location hosting many of the city’s football fans who had turned out in celebration of Liverpool FC’s Premier League triumph.

Emergency services rushed to the scene as the incident unfolded, with reports confirming that a total of 27 people were taken to hospital for treatment. Amongst them were four children, at least two of whom were said to have sustained serious injuries. An additional 20 individuals received medical attention at the scene but did not require hospitalisation, bringing the total number of treated casualties to 47.
The response from emergency crews was rapid and coordinated. Three adults and one child were reportedly trapped underneath the vehicle following the collision and had to be extricated by firefighters in what was described as a swift and heroic effort. Paramedics were seen tending to multiple wounded individuals on Water Street while many onlookers expressed their shock and disbelief at the sudden turn of events.
At a press conference held later in the evening, Merseyside Police moved to calm fears of wider danger or criminality. Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims confirmed that the incident is not being treated as terrorism and stated that it appeared to be an isolated occurrence. A 53-year-old man, understood to be a local resident, was immediately detained at the scene and has since been arrested on suspicion of driving offences.
In her briefing, ACC Sims called for restraint from the public regarding online speculation. She urged people not to share distressing video footage on social media, but invited anyone with relevant evidence to instead provide it directly to the police to aid their ongoing investigation. She added, “Extensive inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances leading up to the collision, and it is vital that people do not speculate or spread misinformation on social media. I know that people will understandably be concerned by what has happened tonight. What I can tell you is that we believe this to be an isolated incident, and we are not currently looking for anyone else in relation to it.”
The North West Ambulance Service, represented by David Kitchin, confirmed details of the casualties: “Our teams treated 20 patients at the scene for minor injuries, and these did not need hospital treatment. Twenty-seven patients in total were taken to hospital, and we believe two of those, including one of the children, have sustained serious injuries.”
Chief Fire Officer Nick Searle of Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service also praised the quick actions of all emergency responders, stating, “We immediately mobilised three fire engines to Water Street and were in attendance in four minutes. On arrival, the crews were met with numerous injured… and four persons trapped under a vehicle. Our crews rapidly lifted the vehicle and removed three adults and one child from beneath.” He assured the community that fire crews would maintain a visible and supportive presence over the coming days.
The Liverpool FC victory celebrations had drawn large crowds, reflecting the city’s passion for football. Police highlighted that significant planning had gone into traffic management and public safety for the parade, but despite these precautions, the evening took a tragic turn. The incident has muted what had been a day of communal joy, with emergency services, officials, and citizens alike now focusing on supporting those affected and seeking answers as to how such an incident could occur.
As investigations continue, the city of Liverpool comes together in solidarity, demonstrating its resilience in the face of adversity. The thoughts of all present are with those injured, particularly the children and their families, as the community awaits further updates. Authorities stress that public support in sharing accurate information, rather than speculation, will be crucial in the days ahead.
