🚨 Heads up, folks! There’s a new Covid variant on the block, and Public Health Wales is keeping a close eye on it. Meet the Cicada variant (or SARS-CoV-2 BA.3.2 if you’re feeling fancy), a highly mutated strain that’s been making its way across the globe. Detected in 22 countries since 2024, it recently popped up in the UK, first in England and now here in Wales.

But before you hit the panic button, here’s what you need to know: Public Health Wales says that, despite the rise in cases, the overall Covid activity is what they’d expect for this time of year. Thanks to vigilant surveillance systems, any changes in virus patterns are being closely monitored, and they will continue assessing the data to see if there’s any threat to public health.

What should you watch out for? The symptoms are pretty standard for Covid: think cough, fever, sore throat, congestion, shortness of breath, and more. In some cases, rest and hydration are all that’s needed. Occasionally, symptoms may not show at all, but the virus can still spread.

Feeling unwell? The NHS advises staying at home to avoid spreading it further. Let’s all do our bit to keep our community healthy and informed.
Stay safe, stay informed, and keep an eye on any updates. 💪🦠 #CicadaVariant #CovidUpdate #PublicHealthWales
