🚫📢 Councillors Block Storage Centre Plan in Tonteg! 🏞️🔇

Local councillors in Rhondda Cynon Taf have halted plans for a new battery energy storage system at Lowlands Farm, Tonteg. Concerns over noise pollution, tricky access routes, and the loss of precious green space have sparked this decision. 🌳🚛

At the recent planning committee meeting, held on September 18, the proposal was rejected despite being recommended for approval. Councillor Danny Grehan voiced worries about the potential noise impact and questioned the effectiveness of access restrictions, stating that lorry drivers might disregard them. He was also sceptical about the chosen location, lamenting the loss of valuable green space. 🌿❌

Councillor Wayne Owen echoed these sentiments, expressing unease about the access and suggesting that even if the Welsh Government overturned the decision, it would still be in the wrong spot.
Interestingly, this plan first appeared on the committee’s radar back in July. An initial refusal from officers was influenced by noise concerns. Since then, new data and discussions attempted to address these worries, but public health and protection teams remained unconvinced, particularly worried about the noise impact on nearby residents, especially at night. 🌙🔉
While further talks with the applicant led to suggested conditions aimed at mitigating noise issues, the final voting saw councillors standing firm against the development. The case will return to future committee talks as next steps are considered.
