π¦ Speed Limit Update in Swansea! π¦

Exciting news from Swansea! After a thorough consultation, 19 roads in the city that had switched to a 20mph speed limit are reverting back to 30mph. The change comes after the Welsh Government’s default 20mph limit was rolled out last September for residential roads. Some roads are already back up to 30mph, and the rest will follow suit by mid-March.
Councillor Andrew Stevens confirmed the details and shared that the funds for these adjustments are covered by a grant from the Welsh Government. Hereβs a sneak peek at the roads returning to the faster limit:

– A48: Penllergaer to Pontlliw
– B4295: The Promenade, Penclawdd

– B4296: Pentre Road, Pontarddulais
– B4436: Mayals Road, Mayals
– B4620: Swansea Road/ Carmarthen Road, Llewitha
– Gors Avenue, Townhill
– Townhill Road
– And many more!
These changes follow Swansea’s successful bid for exemptions to maintain some roads at 30mph under the original 20mph rollout, the highest across Wales π.
The Welsh Government initially introduced the 20mph limit with hopes of reducing collisions and injury severity. Despite a mixed public response, early figures have shown a 25% drop in injuries on these roads. Given the debate, a further Β£5 million was allocated to reevaluate these speed limits.
Safe travels, Swansea! Remember to stay updated and adjust your speed on these roads accordingly. ππ¨ Share your thoughts on these changes below! π
