🏉 Big Night for Welsh Rugby! 🏉
The anticipation is building as the Welsh Rugby Union’s (WRU) Extraordinary General Meeting kicks off tonight at the Principality Stadium. Clubs from across Wales are gathering for what could be a pivotal moment in the sport’s future.
Here’s the scoop: The EGM was originally called after a bid from Central Glamorgan Rugby Union (CGRU) to replace WRU Chairman Richard Collier-Keywood and Professional Rugby Board Chair Malcolm Wall. But in a turn of events, Collier-Keywood decided to step down in July, and Wall has already exited. Majority of the supporting clubs have since withdrawn their backing, leading CGRU to drop their motions and suggest cancelling the EGM. 🗳️
However, the show goes on! ⚖️ According to WRU’s legal guidance, the meeting must proceed unless all clubs agree to call it off. The EGM will start with members deciding whether to withdraw the resolutions. Should that fail to gain unanimous consent, the sessions will continue with key votes on the agenda.
No objections? It’ll transform into an informal gathering, featuring a presentation titled “The Future of Rugby in Wales,” followed by open discussions. At least 95 out of 282 clubs need to be present to make it all official. 🏟️
Keep an eye out for updates! Although media can’t report live during the meeting, rest assured—we’ll bring you all the reactions and results the moment we can. 💬
A reminder of the initial motions up for debate:
1️⃣ Vote of no confidence in Collier-Keywood & Wall.
2️⃣ Elections for four board positions within 14 days post-EGM.
3️⃣ Change in election process for WRU district and council members.
There’s also a call for:
– A temporary halt to professional restructuring plans.
– Forming a steering group for rugby development.
– Establishing a national academy in 3 months.
– Ensuring top roles immersed in Welsh culture and values.
Stay tuned for all things WRU right here! 📰✨
