Gary Lineker spills the beans! It seems that Cristiano Ronaldo isn’t on speaking terms with him anymore, and it’s all because of the age-old debate: who is the GOAT, Messi or Ronaldo?
During an appearance on the Louis Theroux Podcast, Lineker revealed that his admiration for Ronaldo is still strong. He’s one of the greatest, no doubt about it. But when asked to choose between the Portuguese legend and Lionel Messi, Lineker didn’t hesitate to declare Messi as the superior player.
Lineker clarified that his preference for Messi isn’t a dig at Ronaldo: “I think Ronaldo is an incredible footballer, just without Messi’s natural brilliance.” He added, “Ronaldo is incredibly driven and successful, and in any other era, he’d undoubtedly be the best.”
Despite this, Ronaldo and his fans weren’t thrilled with Lineker’s opinion. The former England star shared that although he used to get along with Ronaldo, things changed after his Messi comment. “He doesn’t speak to me anymore,” Lineker admitted.
The Ronaldo vs. Messi debate has been a topic of intense discussion among football fans for years, with both players achieving legendary status. Between them, they’ve won a whopping 13 Ballons d’Or!
