A Newport homeowner has scored a win for his plans to build a garage and garden room, despite some pushback from neighbours and the local council! 🏡✨ Nathan Howells’ proposal for outbuildings in the picturesque hamlet of St Bride’s Wentlooge received the green light from the council’s planning committee after much deliberation.

The neighbourhood buzzed with concerns over potential ‘over-development.’ Two councillors even stepped in to ensure the plans were thoroughly evaluated. But planning officer Jonathan Jones assured that the new structures wouldn’t disrupt the scenic outlook or neighbourly vibe, pointing out that other homes nearby sport similar outbuildings. He said, “The garage will be visible but fits the area’s character and style.”

The community council had reservations about whether past restrictions might halt the new builds. However, Jones clarified that the planning process effectively addresses such concerns. He emphasised that the project was carefully considered to blend seamlessly with the local environment.
With a 7-1 vote from the committee, the development is set to proceed, with chairman Cllr Malcolm Linton noting the plan is in line with existing property styles: “These new structures won’t look out of place compared to nearby properties.”
Looks like for Mr. Howells, it’s time to break out the blueprints and get building! 📐🔨 What do you think about this development? Share your thoughts in the comments!
