🚶♀️🚗 **Say NO to Pavement Parking in Wales! 🚫**

Two Cardiff councillors are championing a cause that’s sure to resonate with many of us: banning pavement parking across Wales. Already outlawed in London and Scotland, the issue continues to pose dangers in our communities, pushing pedestrians, parents with pushchairs, and those with mobility issues onto the roads.

Cllr Susan Elsmore from Canton voices concerns for residents, especially near schools and nurseries, highlighting how vehicles on pavements make daily life hazardous for vulnerable individuals. “It impacts everyone, especially older folks who now fear stepping outside,” says Elsmore. 🤦♂️
Meanwhile, Cllr Rhys Taylor emphasises the broader implications: “It’s about making our neighbourhoods safer and more inviting. Pavement parking is a road safety threat that needs addressing.” 🌟
A survey by Living Streets found that nine out of ten Welsh councillors have heard complaints about it. England is already moving towards empowering local authorities to tackle this nuisance, but Wales seems to be lagging behind.
The Welsh Government acknowledges the problem and is exploring how to grant councils the power to enforce changes. Ruth Billingham from Living Streets adds, “Let’s not become ‘no-go zones’ for wheelchairs, guide dogs, and pushchairs. It’s time for action!”
Cardiff’s new city parking plan aims to better manage public spaces, and introduce parking zones to improve behaviour. Evidence shows a significant drop in offences where such zones exist.
Time to rally for change! Let’s make our streets safer and more accessible for all. 🌈👟👍
