🎶 Noise Trouble Brewin’ in Cardiff! 🎶

There’s a bit of a kerfuffle happening on Charles Street in Cardiff! The much-loved Eclipse Bar, known for its vibrant LGBT+ scene, is finding itself in a bit of a pickle with its new neighbours. They’ve been getting complaints about being too noisy! 📢

Joseph Derrick-Mayes, one of the owners, isn’t too happy. He says, “We were here before all these new residents started moving in, and now everyone wants us to pipe down.” 🤔 Eclipse Bar has been a staple of the nightlife scene, long before Charles Street started becoming more residential. The shift is due to council development policies favouring more housing in the city centre.
To tackle the noise complaints, Eclipse is trying their best – soundproof doors, stopping late-night sing-alongs, you name it! However, Joseph says they’re stuck in a limbo because the council hasn’t set any decibel limits to guide them. “If we go any quieter, we might just lose everything we’ve built,” he admits.
The council, meanwhile, is focusing on developing a city that blends living, working, and playing spaces. They acknowledge the noise complaints but haven’t taken any action yet, just discussions.
So, what’s next for Cardiff’s late-night pulse on Charles Street? And can Eclipse keep its sparkle amidst the noise debates? Only time will tell! 🌟
