🚨 Wind Farm Debate in Wales: Consultation Paused 🚨

A hot topic has hit the pause button! The planned 30-turbine wind farm near Llandrindod Wells—proposed by Bute Energy—has caught a lot of attention and mixed reactions from locals, resulting in the Welsh Government putting the consultation on hold.

Originally scheduled to wrap up on 23rd December, the consultation is paused until January. The decision came after Welsh Government planners at PEDW received numerous objections and needed more time to review redacted information and inspector availability over the holiday season.
This move also means Powys County Council won’t hold its planned meeting to dig into the Local Impact Report until the new year. With the proposal being marked as a Development of National Significance, Powys Council can only advise, not decide.
Locals and officials have voiced many concerns. James Evans, Senedd Member for Brecon and Radnorshire, and Powys Council Leader, Cllr Jake Berriman, are among those opposing the plan. They’ve flagged 14 potential negative impacts including environmental risks to the Radnor Forest and its wildlife, while only four benefits are noted.
In response, Bute Energy highlights the project’s potential benefits—claiming it could power nearly 193,000 homes a year and offer £2 million annually to local services. They also promise a £1.5 million Community Benefit Fund.
Stay tuned as this story unfolds in January! What are your thoughts on the proposal? 💬 Share with us in the comments! ⬇️
