Plans to build new homes on cherished green space in front of Llanrumney Hall in Cardiff have sparked outrage among locals! 😡🌳 This vibrant playing field, nestled beside the historic Grade II* listed hall, has long been a hub for community gatherings and activities.

In March, Cardiff Council revealed that this much-loved area had been earmarked for housing development. Alarmed, residents quickly rallied to protect their valued community asset. A petition opposing the plans has already gathered over 1,300 signatures on Change.org, with organiser Leigh Smith highlighting the site’s historical, social, and environmental benefits.

“For generations, Llanrumney Hall has been more than just a historic building; it’s a vital community space. This land can’t simply be labelled as ‘surplus’,” Leigh emphasised. 🌿
City planners are aiming for balance. Cardiff Council, in collaboration with developer Lovell, is part of a bold initiative to construct over 2,260 new homes in the next decade. The proposed design includes two, three, and four-bedroom homes with some available for rent, catering to those on the council housing waiting list.
But fear not, the council isn’t planning to pave over paradise completely. They’re incorporating a significant portion of open space—1.68 acres!—to bridge the hall and new homes. This patch will be enhanced for recreation, adding to the community spirit.
While these plans are in the early stages, the council is committed to engaging with the Llanrumney community, ensuring everyone’s voices are heard. They promise to involve locals through consultation as the proposal progresses. 🏡🤝
The heart of Llanrumney beats strong with community spirit. Everyone’s keen to balance the need for development with preserving the green oases that offer so much to the community. 💪
