🏉 Disappointment for Llangennech RFC’s U14s 🏆

In a twist that took everyone by surprise, Llangennech RFC’s Under-14 team found their cup final dreams dashed over an admin issue. After celebrating their semi-final win against Carmarthen Athletic in the Carmarthenshire GMG Cup, a complaint about the referee’s neutrality led organisers to call for a replay. Shockingly, this decision sees Carmarthen Athletic stepping into the final instead!

The Llangennech team stands firm, believing their victory was well-deserved. Chair Ben Holding recalls his own under-14s triumph, empathising with the young players. “Being told you can’t compete due to an admin error… it’s mind-blowing,” he expressed. Despite the setback, there’s no bad blood between the clubs.
Llangennech’s statement clarifies that the referee’s only tie was a limited admin link to the senior team. It was argued that the ref, a Level 3 WRU official, was perfectly neutral according to the rules. The competition’s leaders, however, disagreed.
The complaint has sparked concerns over player welfare, with the club citing serious risks in replaying the match. Despite this, the refereeing standard wasn’t questioned the first time around. Fans and outsiders have shown massive support for Llangennech’s stance, with the initial post being shared over 150 times!
Holding shared the impact of the decision, saying, “We’ve tried our best but got no support. This issue should’ve been solved earlier so these young players could focus on the game.”
