🚍 Big Changes Ahead for Bus Services in Swansea! 🚍

Swansea Council leader Rob Stewart believes it’s time to shake up the bus system! With a new franchising system now approved, the Welsh Government aims to roll out a more connected and reliable bus network. No more leaving transport decisions solely to private operators—local councils and Transport for Wales will now set routes, timetables, and fares, while operators bid for contracts. The journey toward integrated and accessible public transport is on track, with a vision to create smoother travel experiences that truly serve the community.
Come 2027, South West Wales will be leading the charge with this new system, and Swansea is already gearing up. “This is an exciting time for bus services,” said Cllr Andrew Stevens. While the journey promises a few bumps along the way, it’s a promising direction for better connectivity.

A recent summer consultation revealed what locals want: better timing, more frequent services, and seamless connections between buses and trains. Imagine hopping on and off buses or trains with little wait time! Despite some concerns about cost, the hope is that this change transforms the bus network to better match residents’ needs.

With support expected from the Welsh Government, Stewart is confident about the shift. He emphasised, “We should not be afraid to step in and run services ourselves where we need to.” The Bus Services (Wales) Bill is set to put people first, promising one network, one timetable, one ticket. However, not everyone agrees, with critics warning against a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach.
