A trial date has been set for a 14-year-old boy accused of the tragic murder of a young girl believed to be Lilly Jones. The heartbreaking discovery of her body was made in the Duffryn Park area of Blaina on the evening of 22nd June. Though formal identification is pending, Lilly’s family has been informed and they’re receiving much-needed support during this devastating time.

The young defendant appeared in Cardiff Crown Court and is scheduled for a plea trial and preparation hearing on 24th July, with a provisional trial date in November. Currently, he’s being held in youth detention.

In the wake of this tragic event, the community has rallied together to raise nearly £20,000 in Lilly’s memory. Fundraisers, a football festival, and heartfelt tributes are flowing in for the “kind, bubbly” teen whose life was cut far too short. Her school, Brynmawr Foundation School, expressed the profound impact of her loss on all her peers and teachers, calling her a cherished member of their community.

Flowers and messages continue to be left at a memorial near Duffryn Park, honouring Lilly as “a beautiful girl” and “an amazing friend.” This outpouring of love and solidarity paints a picture of a community united in grief and remembrance.
