A builder’s clever detective work has sparked attention after his £3,000 worth of tools were stolen. Imagine spotting your own tools for sale on Facebook just hours after they went missing! That’s exactly what happened to our Swansea builder. Instead of giving up hope, he devised a smart plan to track down the culprits.

The story started with a burglary during the night at a house in Townhill, Swansea. As soon as our builder discovered the theft, he immediately contacted the police, who reviewed CCTV footage showing people near the site at that odd hour.
But here’s where it gets intriguing – when the builder stumbled upon his stolen tools being advertised online the same day, he informed the police and adopted a bold strategy. He turned into a detective himself, posing as an interested buyer. Off he went to the location linked to the Facebook post.

When he arrived, he was met with denials of any knowledge about the tools. However, the twist came when police officers decided to search the premises, eventually recovering some of the missing tools. This led them to Craig Dudley, who was ultimately arrested. Initially charged with burglary, Dudley later pleaded guilty to handling stolen goods, an admission that sealed his fate.

Dudley had a track record with multiple convictions, including threats to neighbours and dishonesty offences. Taking his circumstances into account, the court sentenced him to 17 months in prison, blending both current and past offences into one term.
Approaching his 40th birthday behind bars, Dudley now faces the time to reflect on his past mistakes and contemplate meaningful change. His story is a stark reminder of the value of wisdom and the oversized consequences of wrongdoing.
