Top snooker ref Rob Spencer is gearing up for the World Championship final at the Crucible this Sunday. But earlier in the tourney, he had a bit of a whoops moment! 🎱

During Zhao Xintong’s first match against Liam Highfield, Spencer mistakenly announced the wrong frame as the final one of the session. In the heat of the moment, he said, “Thank you, the final frame of the session,” only to catch himself and realise, “Oh, hang on. No. No, it isn’t. No. Sorry.”

The light-hearted slip, referencing his duties at the recent Tour Championship, provided a bit of comic relief for the audience, who were more than forgiving. Highfield, who hadn’t played at the Crucible in four years, also chimed in to correct the mistake before cracking on.

Despite the hiccup, Spencer’s reputation remains untarnished, and he’s been given the ultimate honour of officiating the Championship final. Taking on this prestigious role, he reflects on his career saying, “It is a massive personal achievement. The adrenaline kicks in before you go out there, and it won’t feel real until I’m announced into the arena. I can’t wait.”
Rob’s love for snooker began when he stumbled into a club in Stockport at 13. From then on, just like in Narnia, he was transported to a magical world, and the snooker bug bit him hard.
