In a chilling case of neglect and cruelty, Graham Alexander McQuet from Grangemouth was found guilty of keeping his six wolfdogs and a cat in appalling conditions. He avoided jail but won’t be allowed to have animals for five years and was slapped with a £2,000 fine by Falkirk Sheriff Court.

The SSPCA and Police Scotland discovered the distressing scene after receiving reports about the animals’ welfare. The wolfdogs were living in filth, fitted with shock collars, and one poor animal’s remains were found in the freezer, missing a leg.

McQuet had initially blocked attempts by welfare officers to inspect and improve the situation, but a search warrant revealed the grim reality— including a secret cannabis farm! To make matters worse, McQuet had allegedly smuggled the wolfdogs from a Russian zoo using fake documents.

The surviving wolfdogs were ultimately relocated to The Little Zoo in Wiltshire, a sanctuary experienced in the care of exotic animals. Gary Emery, the director of the zoo, was horrified by their condition, describing the dogs as “unsocialised, terrified, injured, and in poor body condition.”

Thanks to the persistence of the authorities and the compassion of The Little Zoo staff, these animals now have a chance to heal. But the dire conditions they endured have left lasting damage.

Inspector Fiona Thorburn shared concerns about the legality and treatment of the wolfdogs, who hardly seemed domesticated. She expressed gratitude towards the witnesses who supported this investigation and the ongoing care provided by The Little Zoo.

Let’s hope this story raises awareness about the responsibility of caring for animals and discourages any future mishandling of such majestic creatures. Show some love for our furry friends and be vigilant in reporting any signs of neglect! 🐾
