Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has shared an emotional update on her health journey, revealing that she’s not the same person she was. The beloved Welsh dancer, 35, opened up about her experience with breast cancer on Channel 4’s Stand Up To Cancer.

Diagnosed in 2023, Amy has faced an arduous path with chemotherapy and multiple mastectomies. She recently underwent a second mastectomy and shared that while no new cancer diagnosis was given, she expects a smooth recovery.
Reflecting on her journey, Amy recounted her 2023 appearance on Stand Up To Cancer with a shaved head and admitted, “Two years ago, I didn’t even recognise myself, but I’m so proud of how far I’ve come.” Despite the challenges, she bravely continues to receive monthly oncology injections and grapples with the impacts of her treatment, including menopause induced by her hormone-fed cancer. “I don’t know if I’ll have the honour of becoming a mum, which I desperately want,” Amy confessed, highlighting the emotional toll of her journey.

Last month’s surgery has left her feeling detached from her body, yet immensely grateful for another shot at life. She says, “A cancer diagnosis changes you forever. I’m no longer the person I was, and that’s not by choice.”

Amy faced some dark times, missing out on having a celebrity partner on Strictly in 2023 due to her treatment. Yet, she has triumphantly returned to the BBC One show, documenting her journey online. In February 2024, she happily announced that her latest health check showed “no evidence of disease.”
The road hasn’t been easy, with Amy admitting she never thought she would dance again. The journey taught her resilience despite her fears and struggles, marking a new chapter in her life as she continues to shine both on and off the dancefloor.
