🚨 Big Changes at Girlguiding UK! 🚨
Girlguiding UK has announced that transgender girls will need to leave the organisation by September 6. This decision, made late last year, restricts membership solely to cisgender girls and young women. It comes after a Supreme Court ruling clarified the terms “woman” and “sex” to mean biological women and sex.
From now until September, affected members are urged to plan and access the support they need before making the transition out. This change not only affects members, aged 4 to 18, but also volunteers. Any trans volunteers in roles designated for women must switch to positions open to all genders by the September deadline.
Girlguiding took this decision after extensive consultations, expert legal advice, and feedback from their community, hoping to give everyone time to adjust accordingly.
With around 300,000 members across the popular Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers groups, plus 80,000 volunteers, the impact of this policy shift is still unfolding.
