John Starkey, once boasting about being an “internationally renowned clairvoyant,” has been unmasked as a sex offender. The so-called psychic, who claimed to have graced major TV and radio shows, used his sessions to lure and assault women.
In a damning court session, Caernarfon Crown Court heard that Starkey, 74, used his psychic services as a ruse to gain the trust of his victims. The court was told that in 2018, he assaulted a woman in Wolverhampton under the guise of a psychic session. Later, he tricked the same woman into a meeting in a London hotel, under the false promise of having other clients present.
The chilling acts weren’t isolated. Another victim, who visited Starkey for a consultation in Llandudno in 2022, told the court how he assaulted her after ordering her to undress. He claimed it was an “initiation” for “spiritual cleansing”.
Starkey, who resides in Upper Colwyn Bay, pleaded guilty to sexual assault by penetration and two counts of sexual assault. Despite his defence team’s claims of his previous good character and health issues, Judge Nicola Jones condemned him as a complete charlatan, highlighting the severe breach of trust in both cases.
Starkey has been sentenced to four years and five months in prison, with half served in custody and the remainder on licence. Restraining orders have been placed to protect the victims, ensuring he has no contact with them.
