Is your furry friend under the weather? While the UK is seeing a spike in flu cases, you might be worried about your pooch catching it from you. But fear not! Helen Webb from YuMOVE assures us that human colds and flu pose a very low risk to dogs. 🐶

Human viruses like Rhinoviruses, which cause runny noses and sore throats, are species-specific, meaning they can’t jump from you to your pup. Although “canine flu” exists, it’s a rare phenomena here in the UK.

More common in the UK is canine parainfluenza, linked to kennel cough. Symptoms to look out for include a hacking cough, sneezing, or lethargy. If your doggo shows any of these symptoms, it’s wise to check in with a vet.
Kennel cough is the chief culprit, brought on by a bacterium called Bordetella bronchiseptica and the canine parainfluenza virus. It’s highly contagious, but vaccination can offer protection. Keeping your dog on a healthy diet also bolsters their immune system, ensuring they’re in top shape to fend off any nasty viruses.
🚨 If your dog is coughing, consult your vet to rule out anything serious. Stay informed and take care of your four-legged pal! 🐾
