As summer heats up across the UK, a heartfelt wake-up call comes from an RSPCA worker determined to unveil the deadly risk faced by dogs left in sweltering vehicles. Chris O’Brien courageously locked himself in a car to demonstrate the grim reality our furry friends endure.
Kicking off the experiment with a digital thermometer and stopwatch, Chris began his trial with the car’s interior at a seemingly harmless 23.3°C. But just five minutes later, it skyrocketed to a stifling 35.1°C! By the ten-minute mark, the oppressive heat surged to 43.6°C, leaving Chris breathless and drenched in sweat.
“It’s absolutely baking,” Chris expressed. “I can’t imagine how a dog would cope.” Unlike humans, dogs aren’t able to cool down as effectively, making high temperatures even more perilous for them.
While Chris could exit whenever he wished, a dog wouldn’t have the same understanding, only adding to the distress and danger. At 15 minutes, things escalated to 48.8°C, cracking the 50°C mark shortly after. By the end of his 25-minute experiment, the sweltering environment reached a shocking 57.1°C!
Chris urges everyone, “Never leave a dog in a hot car. The impact is swift and dangerous.”
