Beloved Strictly Come Dancing star, Amy Dowden, has candidly shared her tremendous journey through breast cancer treatment. Initially feeling “ready to hang up my dancing shoes,” Amy’s passion for dance has been her driving force in recovery.
Diagnosed in 2023, Amy took a break from the spotlight to tackle chemotherapy and undergo two mastectomies. In a heartfelt chat with Matt Willis on his podcast, Amy revealed losing her agility and skills was tough, but thanks to encouragement from her hubby and fellow dancer Carlos Gu, she persevered. 💃
Carlos, who clinched the Strictly title, was a rock throughout, telling Amy, “Cancer’s taken so much, it’s not taking your dancing back. You can do this.” This uplifting spirit reignited Amy’s love for dance, propelling her to rediscover joy and strength, ultimately dazzling audiences during her tour comeback. 🌟
A personal highlight? Teaming up with former McFly singer Tom Fletcher in 2021, whose support led Amy to crucial work with breast cancer awareness charity CoppaFeel. She admits, “If it wasn’t for Tom, I wouldn’t be alive.” 💕
