Tragedy struck early this morning as a fire ravaged a children’s soft play centre and mini zoo in Buntingford, Hertfordshire. The devastating blaze at The Jungle Box, located on the Watermill Industrial Estate, sadly claimed the lives of all the animals housed there. Despite the valiant efforts of emergency services, who dispatched 10 fire engines to the scene around 3am, none of the zoo’s inhabitants survived.

Known for its delightful array of creatures, The Jungle Box was home to meerkats, owls, iguanas, giant tortoises, and even a 16ft snake. Locals and visitors enjoyed interacting with these animals since the facility opened just last year, but now this cherished spot stands in sorrow.
Thankfully, no people were harmed during the incident. Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service praised their crews for containing the fire and preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings. Assistant chief fire officer Darren Cook expressed gratitude for the team’s professionalism and dedication in handling this emergency.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of this heartbreaking incident. Our thoughts go out to everyone affected by this tragedy, a painful reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of animal welfare.
