A night out in Tredegar turned tragic when Luke Davies was brutally attacked outside The Lounge bar. An unprovoked punch from Michael Hitchings left Luke with severe injuries, including a fractured skull and eye sockets, causing his family to be told to “prepare for the worst”. The incident took place after Luke had tried to break up a scuffle outside the bar.
In a shocking turn, Hitchings—who initially seemed to be helping—handed a beer bottle to his brother, approached Luke, and delivered a devastating blow that knocked him unconscious. Bystanders quickly came to Luke’s aid and rushed him to Grange University Hospital. His injuries were so severe that he faced critical conditions and enduring complications with his eyesight, hearing, and sense of smell and taste.
Hitchings, who has no prior convictions, later turned himself in and admitted to inflicting grievous bodily harm. Despite the gravity of his actions, he was sentenced to 18 months, suspended for two years, with requirements for rehabilitation and monitoring.
