In the past 18 months, at least four businesses have fallen prey to such antics. Imagine tucking into your dessert only to realise someone else has disappeared on the bill! One of the most shocking cases involved Ann and Bernard McDonagh, a duo from Port Talbot infamous for their calculated ‘dine and dash’ spree across five eateries. The pair racked up bills over £1,000 yet silently vanished post-dinner. 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️

Bella Ciao, Isabella’s, River House, Golden Fortune, and La Casona were among their targets. Their ruse finally caught up with them, leading to jail time and a hefty £2,185 compensation order!💼💰

From city hotspots to charming village pubs, this ‘eat without pay’ trend is causing ruckus. The Greyhound Inn in Usk was left reeling after a family rushed off without paying more than £300. 😤

And the tales don’t stop there. One audacious returner tried booking a grand week-long stay at The Diplomat Hotel in Llanelli, only to be busted for a previous unpaid £800 bill. Smooth move! 😲

Even a new restaurant, Welsh House in Carmarthen, was targeted on opening night. Despite clear footage of the alleged dine-and-dashers leaving with a £155 bill, they haven’t been caught.

Local businesses, running on tight margins, are at a loss. As Simon Green from The Ship in Solva shared, an unpaid £185 could break the bank!

These incidents aren’t just about unpaid bills; they’re about livelihoods. With every pound counting in today’s economy, ‘dining and dashing’ doesn’t just leave plates empty, but bank accounts too.
