🚑 “Deeply Alarming” A&E Wait Times Unveiled Despite Slight Improvement 🚑

Scotland’s A&E waiting times continue to spark concern, with less than two-thirds of patients being seen, admitted, transferred, or discharged within the four-hour target. Even though there’s a minor uptick from last week’s 63% to 66.1%, these figures are still far from the government’s goal of 95%.
Health Secretary Neil Gray faces heavy criticism from Scottish Conservatives who say he lacks a plan to address what they term a “permanent crisis.” In a startling revelation, research from the Royal College of Emergency Medicine estimates that prolonged waits in A&E may have contributed to 818 excess deaths last year.

With over 28,000 visiting A&E, 11.7% of patients had an 8+ hour wait, and nearly 5% spent half a day waiting! As winter approaches, Dr. Sandesh Gulhane warns that the pressure on emergency services is only set to rise, urging the Scottish Government to step up.
Despite the grim stats, Neil Gray remains somewhat optimistic, highlighting that Scotland’s A&E departments have outperformed those in England and Wales over the past decade and showing a decrease in long waits recently. The government’s investing £200 million to better hospital flow and tackle delayed discharges, with plans to expand community care options.
🌈 Let’s hope these changes bring about the needed improvements and ensure our NHS can provide timely care for all! 💪 #AandECrisis #NHS #HealthcareReform
