🎶 Heads up, music lovers! Cardiff’s beloved live music venue, The New Moon, is sadly closing its doors at the end of October. After getting a £10k boost from the council’s grassroots venue fund earlier this year, the venue’s team has decided to call it quits, citing slow trade, rising costs, and an unsecured tenancy.
Cllr Jennifer Burke from Cardiff Council expressed her disappointment, emphasising how crucial independent venues are to the city’s vibrant music scene. “We’ve been in regular contact with The New Moon, offering support, but the reality is we can’t save every venue from the challenges they face.”
While it’s a tough loss, there’s still incredible energy around Cardiff’s music scene. The Cardiff Music City Festival is currently in full swing, and there’s a new wave of independent venues thriving. The Little Gigs talent scheme is buzzing, and a new arena is rising in Cardiff Bay!
But remember, folks, our cherished venues need your support to survive. A simple act like buying a gig ticket or a drink can make all the difference. Let’s keep our music scene alive! 🎸🥁
