🚗⛽️ Attention, UK drivers! Get ready for a bump at the pump! Fuel prices are set to rise as the long-standing freeze on fuel duty ends. From September 2026, get prepared for a staged increase, with an extra 1p per litre this September, another 2p in December, and a final 2p in March 2027. That means paying 57.95p per litre in tax by next year. 💷

This change follows Chancellor Rachel Reeves’ decision to align the tax with inflation, marking the first increase in 15 years! The freeze, initially saving drivers money, has reportedly cost a whopping £120 billion since 2011. Critics like Shadow Chancellor Sir Mel Stride argue Labour’s move digs into commuters’ pockets, questioning fiscal control.
Meanwhile, drivers should also gear up for new road rules as part of the Government’s Road Safety Strategy 2026. These include a mandatory learning period post-theory test, mandatory vision checks for the over-70s every three years, stricter drink-driving measures, and more.

Local Transport Minister Lilian Greenwood emphasised the goal is clear: safer roads for everyone, no matter their mode of travel. 🚦
