Caught on CCTV leaving a Texaco petrol station visibly intoxicated, Uncles rejoined North Road only to make an illegal right turn towards the Gabalfa flyover. PC Thomas Lewis and PC Guy Russell, responding to an emergency with flashing lights and sirens, never saw him coming. The collision was severe, slamming their police van into a central reservation.

Both officers were rushed to the University Hospital of Wales. PC Lewis left with a shattered wrist, multiple fractures, and scars both physical and mental. He shared how his life turned upside down, missing out on cherished moments like his best friend’s wedding and family holidays. PC Russell faced a shattered wrist and a painful recovery, now haunted by the fear of driving.

During the investigation, Uncles was breathalysed and found with 127 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath, when the limit is just 35. He admitted to two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and drink-driving.

The consequences? Uncles is now serving two years and four months in prison, and won’t be driving for another four years and two months. Claiming remorse, his defence argued personal struggles and family issues led to his increased drinking.

This incident is a grave reminder: never get behind the wheel while under the influence. The impact on lives is too real and too lasting. Let’s all pledge to drive safe and keep our streets secure. 🚔💔
