Porthcawl’s shiny new £4m Metrolink bus station has been making headlines—and not always for the right reasons! Opened in 2024, the station was meant to boost public transport, but it’s now under the spotlight due to some daredevil e-bikers causing chaos.

Traffic Updates
Local police have been receiving complaints about these riders zipping through the station, and they’ve even released CCTV footage of the antics. The video shows two boys tearing through the station, front tyres off the ground, narrowly missing pedestrians. Talk about a close call! 🚴💨

The Porthcawl Neighbourhood Policing Team stepped up, identifying the culprits and putting a stop to their risky behaviour. One bike’s now been seized, a reminder that there are rules to follow when it comes to e-bikes and e-scooters in the UK.

In brief, e-scooters can’t legally be on public roads, pavements, or cycle lanes. As for e-bikes, they’re fine as long as they’re Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycles (EAPCs) with specific features. Any e-bike not fitting these criteria is basically a motorbike in the eyes of the law, requiring registration, insurance, and proper licences.

While Porthcawl’s development is a step forward, residents are divided. The station might be a symbol of progress, but its location and lack of amenities like toilets have raised eyebrows. And with these recent e-bike shenanigans, it’s clear the town has challenges to tackle.

Have your say, folks! Is this the kind of regeneration you hoped for? And what should be done about the e-bike issue? Let’s keep the convo going below. 👇
