💔 Rugby fans, we’ve got some bittersweet news. Former Wales backrower and current head coach at Swansea RFC, Jonathan Thomas, has made the tough decision to step down because of health reasons. Appointed just before the Super Rygbi Cymru season, he’s been instrumental in shaping the team’s recent success.

At 42, Jonathan, who earned 67 caps with Wales, had to retire from playing a decade ago due to head injuries. Recently, he’s faced new health challenges stemming from old traumas, prompting him to prioritise his well-being.
Reflecting on his time with Swansea, Jonathan said, “I loved this job, and it makes the decision even harder. But my health and family come first. I’ve had immense support from the club, and I’m grateful for the opportunity.”

For those unaware, JT is part of a larger movement involving 390 former players advocating for concussion awareness in rugby. Despite the heartache of leaving, his dedication to his health is inspiring.
Swansea RFC sits fifth in the SRC table, thanks to Jonathan’s leadership. Keith Colclough, managing director, praised Jonathan’s contributions, saying, “Personal health trumps everything. We’ll miss him dearly but fully support his decision. We hope to see him back at the club in the future.”
Let’s send JT our best wishes for his health journey. Your legacy at Swansea RFC will be remembered and celebrated. 🙌 #GetWellSoonJT #RugbyFamily #SwanseaRFC
