In a dramatic highlight from the past few years, McKenzie Danks made headlines after causing a stir during the infamous Ely disturbances. This young man from Cardiff added his own flair to chaos by pushing a police officer and, rather uniquely, hurling his shoes at another. Fast forward to now, and Danks, who’s turned a new leaf, faced the music at Cardiff Crown Court.

Back on that fateful day in May 2023, Danks got caught up in the tension surrounding a tragic event involving his close friend Harvey Evans. In a desperate bid to navigate through the chaos, Danks fibbed about being Harvey’s brother to pass a police cordon. When things heated up, he mistakenly thought he was kicked by an officer, leading him to lash out by throwing his infamous footgear.

Notably, since that day, Danks has kept out of trouble and expressed genuine remorse in court. His efforts haven’t gone unnoticed; with a secure job and strong family support, he’s been making positive strides. However, the court didn’t let him off entirely, sentencing him to a suspended 12-week prison term. Alongside that, he’s set to embark on a rehabilitation programme and do 200 hours of unpaid work.
Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke acknowledged Danks’ young age and immaturity at the time but emphasised the seriousness of the actions. Danks’ tale serves as a reminder of how quickly things can escalate and the importance of making amends. Here’s hoping for a peaceful and constructive path ahead for him! 🌟
